Running, climbing, laughing. Mud on your shoes, falling down and getting back up again. Exercising with kids rarely looks neat or planned, but that’s exactly what makes it so much fun! Because moving together isn’t about schedules or performance, it’s about doing something together! In this article, we explain how you can exercise with children, why it’s good for both kids and adults, and how you can truly work towards a goal like Strong Viking or STYREKX.

Why Moving Together with Kids Is So Valuable

Exercising with children is more than just physical activity. It’s about spending time together, having fun, and creating lasting memories! It shows kids that being active is enjoyable and natural, without feeling like a “chore.” And for you, it’s a great way to stay fit, unwind, and truly connect. This doesn’t mean you have to drag them to the gym, of course. So what else can you do?

Exercising with Kids: What Can You Do?

Of course, you can always take your kids to football practice every Saturday while you watch from the sidelines. Sometimes in the sun, more often in the rain (welcome to the Netherlands). But you can also spend an hour exercising together! Win-win, right? So, what should you do together? Well, we’ve gathered some fun activities for you!

Head into the Forest

Venture into the forest like true Vikings! The forest is a perfect environment: fresh air, soft forest floor that’s much kinder to little knees than asphalt, and plenty to explore. Alternate running with climbing and scrambling. For you, it’s an easy way to stay active yourself without it feeling like ‘real training’.

Go to the Playground

For kids, moving is mostly about playing. Which kids (and parents!) aren’t tired after an hour at the playground? Exactly, no one! The amount of running, climbing, and scrambling that happens there is often underestimated. So: an hour at the playground is a top choice for being active together!

Jump in the Pool

Swimming is a fantastic way to be active together. Moving in the water feels lighter, making it not only fun but also gentle on your body. Swimming together not only strengthens muscles and endurance but also provides quality time without pressure! Whether you’re swimming laps, playing water games, or just splashing around, swimming is a playful and refreshing way to stay fit and make memories.

Train Together for Strong Viking

What’s more fun than hordes of little Vikings with mud-covered faces, overcoming obstacles, and laughing at (or with) their parents when they slip? You don’t need to train for the Strong Viking Family Run, but it sure is fun! With our 4 KM Obstacle Run training schedule, you’ll be well prepared at the start line. Oh, and it’s also a great option for a sporty kids’ party or a family outing!

Strong Viking Family Run

The Strong Viking Family Run is the perfect goal to work towards with your kids from the age of five. Come together in the Viking spirit and count down to the big day while practicing regularly. By training together regularly, you not only build fitness and strength but also trust and teamwork! Strong Viking is more than an Obstacle Run; it’s an adventure where you step into the true Viking spirit as a family. Together you conquer mud, obstacles, and challenges, and celebrate every victory, big or small!

STYREKX Youngsters

Are your kids not fans of mud? Or are you looking for a different goal to work towards? STYREKX Youngsters is perfect for that! Here, children from 8 years old, together with other little muscle heroes, get to show how strong they are. During the event, the kids receive guidance from experienced trainers and event coaches. The exercises are light and varied, often using bodyweight or simple equipment. Think of burpees, lifting light balls, and short running sections between stations. And the parents? They can cheer o and join in their own Fitness Race!
