In 874, the Norwegian adventurer Ingólfur Arnarson discovered a pristine island he called ‘Snœland’ (Snowland), later known as Iceland. He saw it as a sacred land, where volcanoes erupted like the fiery spirit of the Vikings, and glaciers stood as gigantic guardians. While the interior remained mysterious and impassable, the Vikings settled along the coasts and laid the foundations of a society that still lives on today.
