ABOUT THE SLEIPNIR AXE MEDAL
The Sleipnir Axe is, of course, not just any axe. On the final piece of this medal, Sleipnir is depicted. Sleipnir is a figure from Norse mythology… and not just any figure. He is the eight-legged horse of the Viking chief god, Odin. Odin is often shown on his throne, accompanied by his ravens and two wolves. He is the god of war, and whenever he rides into battle, he does so together with his eight-legged horse, Sleipnir.
THE HISTORY OF SLEIPNIR
The story begins in Asgard, the home of the gods. This city was surrounded by a great wall, meant to protect all the residing gods. In addition to the wall, the god Thor was responsible for guarding Asgard. However, Thor was busy fighting giants instead of watching over the city. In his absence, the city was attacked and the wall was destroyed.
Of course, the city couldn’t stand without this great wall, and soon an unknown builder came to Asgard. He promised that he could rebuild the wall all by himself—without any help! Moreover, he claimed he could complete the work in a time no one could match, even if they had all the help in the world. Naturally, the gods were intrigued by this plan, but it came at a high price…
In exchange for the new wall, the builder demanded the sun, the moon, and the goddess Freya. Before the gods could even discuss this demand, someone had already agreed: Loki, the god of fire. He set only one condition: the wall had to be completed within six months.
The builder then agreed to the condition, on the understanding that he could use his stallion, Svaðilfari. To the great astonishment of the gods, the construction of the wall progressed rapidly. The gods of Asgard feared they would have to pay the steep price.
Loki, feeling unsafe, came up with a clever trick. He transformed himself into a beautiful white mare and lured Svaðilfari away from the construction site. This trick ultimately led to the birth of an eight-legged stallion foal. Loki returned to Asgard and presented the foal to Odin, who named him Sleipnir. Thus began the story of Sleipnir, who grew into a large, muscular horse—the fastest horse in existence!
His coat is gray like a stormy sky, with darker gray mane. Legend says that runes were engraved in Sleipnir’s teeth. Once he matured into a full-grown horse, he could not only gallop across land, but also over the sea and through the air. In addition, Sleipnir could carry Odin between the worlds of heaven and earth.

To collect medals, you need to earn points. For every two Obstacle Runs you participate in, you earn one medal! Family editions do not count.
