Skipping obstacles is not an option. All obstacles, all burpees, all the way! This is the toughest challenge you can take on. Only the ones who make it to Walhalla will earn this very special medal!
The story behind the Ultra Viking medal/opener asks for a last dive into the Norse mythology. Portrayed on this medal is a symbol which is not just any drawing. It is the symbol of a so called Vegvisir. The Icelandic translation of Vegvisir is ‘that which shows the way’. The symbol is described in one modern Icelandic collection of spells, the so-called Huld manuscript. It states whenever the Vegvisir is carried, one will never lose one’s way in storms or bad weather.
The Vegvisir is composed with eight Viking rune staves which could be representing the cardinal (North, East, South, West) and intercardinal directions (Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast). Some people believe that a nail placed right in the middle of the Vegvisir could show directions through its shadow’s position at certain times of the day and help the Vikings navigating. Other legends state that the Vegvisir was portrayed on Viking ships to ensure a safe return home.
Norse mythology tells more than just one story about the Vegvisir. But there is one thing you will find in all those stories. These are all about a safe return home. If you have earned the Vegvisir medal there is one thing we can be sure about: you followed the glorious way to Walhalla! You conquered the ultimate and toughest Strong Viking challenge! OORAH!
