My first Strong Viking Obstacle Run!
Learn or help.
There are only a few weeks left until I have to run my first Strong Viking. Yes, I have to, I did not really have the chance to say yes or no. A few months ago I started a new job at Strong Viking, the office, not the course. It is amazing to work for a young and sport-minded company. They just ‘forgot’ to tell me one little detail: if you work here, you have to run a Strong Viking Obstacle run. The first few events went perfectly for me, I was working safely and not running at the event. But now there is no more room for hiding and excuses. 2nd September – Water Edition, Ghent: 13 kilometres. My colleagues were not satisfied with me running 7 kilometres. I need to get off my lazy ass the next few weeks, because to be completely honest with you, I haven’t worked out that much lately… Holidays, moving, party’s, that amazing summer temperatures and work of course 😉. Under these circumstances I am probably not the only one, by whom working-out is one the last points on my to do list.
Unfortunately, excuses won’t help me again. 2nd September I must appear at the start, well prepared or not. 2nd September, lets count, that is in like THREE weeks, how will I ever survive those 13 kilometres?! Well, I am about to find out in the next few weeks. There is no way back and I tried all my excuses, but my colleagues are not buying them… So I am on the hunt for the best tips and tricks. Have you participated before and do you have some good tips for a starting runner? Please let me know! Or are you my companion and it is your first Strong Viking coming up? Or are you still having doubts if you’re able to complete a run? Please read and learn with me in the next few weeks. I am going to find answers to all the questions you might have when you are preparing for your first run.
During these few weeks left, I try to prepare as good as possible! Starting by the vision of Strong Viking, which is based on the story of the Vikings. People who where believed to be: strong, tough, adventurous and brothers. After my fellow Vikings forced me to this challenge, I decided to start with the step that is in my eyes the easiest: brothers. So, I have convinced some friends of mine join me on this run. I really think I will need some support on these 13 kilometres. Luckily on the run I am going to have lot fellows, since all participants become brothers during the run! As mentioned in the Viking pledge: we leave no Viking behind! Step 1, check! Adventurous is also half completed in my eyes. There is simply no way back. For me that is adventurous enough for one week. Strong and tough are postponed till next week…
In the upcoming weeks I am finding out if I (read: everybody) can handle a Strong Viking run. What are things to keep in mind and which preparations can you do? I will search for all the answers on my, and of course your, questions.
Oh by the way, this is me. As you can see there is one aspect of the Vikings I already mastered: drinking beer (Vikings drink their beer in Walhalla!). Unfortunately, this will not help me during the run. But well, I like to believe I am already good at one of the Viking aspects. 😊
OORAH!
